4 Best Squarespace Website Tutorials for Beginners

If you’re building your own Squarespace website, one of the best things you can do is spend a little time learning how Squarespace actually works.

You don’t need to become a web designer. You don’t need to learn how to code. But understanding how to edit pages, add sections, change your content, work with images, and navigate the Squarespace editor will make building and maintaining your website so much easier.

This is especially helpful if you’ve purchased a Squarespace website template, whether it’s one of my nonprofit website templates or a template you found from online.

A template gives you a great starting point for the design and structure of your website, (and honestly the best way to get started, imo) but you’ll still want to understand the basics of Squarespace so you can feel fully in control of your website.

And luckily, there are some really good super helpful FREE Squarespace website tutorials on YouTube.

I’ve been building websites for years, and rather than creating another giant tutorial covering information that other Squarespace designers have already explained really well, I wanted to put together a few of my favorite resources in one place.

If you’re looking for a Squarespace tutorial for beginners, start with one of these.

1. Squarespace Website Tutorial by Jen Webb

Watch the Squarespace video tutorial:

Jen Webb is a Squarespace web designer and educator who creates resources to help business owners and designers better understand Squarespace.

What I like about Jen’s approach is that her tutorials are approachable. You don’t feel like you need to understand web design before you can follow along.

This makes her Squarespace tutorial a good place to start if you recently opened a Squarespace account and are still figuring out where everything lives.

It can also be helpful if someone else originally built your website and you now need to learn how to make everyday updates yourself.

This tutorial is especially helpful for:

  • First-time Squarespace users

  • Small business owners building their own website

  • Anyone who purchased a Squarespace template

  • People who need to learn how to edit an existing Squarespace website

You can find more Squarespace resources from Jen at Jen Webb.

2. Squarespace Tutorial for Beginners by Paige Brunton

If you’ve spent any time searching for Squarespace help online, there’s a good chance you’ve come across Paige Brunton.

Paige has been working with Squarespace for years and has created a large library of resources around Squarespace, website design, and building a web design business.

Her tutorial is another great option if you want someone to walk you through Squarespace rather than trying to figure everything out by clicking around on your own.

I especially like resources like this for people who are building their first website because Squarespace itself isn’t necessarily difficult, but there are a lot of little things to learn when you’re getting started.

Once you understand how pages, sections, blocks, navigation, and styles work together, the whole platform starts to make a lot more sense.

This tutorial is especially helpful for:

  • Complete beginners

  • DIY website owners

  • People who prefer learning by watching someone work inside Squarespace

  • Anyone wanting a broader introduction to the platform

You can learn more about Paige and find additional resources at Paige Brunton.

3. Squarespace Tutorial by Victoria Weber

Victoria Weber is another Squarespace designer and educator worth following if you’re learning how to work with the platform.

Her work goes beyond simply showing you where to click. She has experience with web design and digital strategy, which is helpful because a good website isn’t just about making everything look nice.

You also want to think about how people are actually going to use your website.

That’s something I always encourage when you’re customizing a template too. Before changing every font, color, image, and section, first understand why the page is structured the way it is.

Your website should make it easy for someone to understand who you are, what you do, and what you want them to do next.

This tutorial is especially helpful for:

  • Beginners learning Squarespace

  • Business owners working on their own websites

  • People customizing a website template

  • Anyone who wants to better understand Squarespace while thinking about the overall website experience

You can learn more about Victoria at Victoria Weber.

4. Squarespace Tutorial for Beginners by Rachell de Luna of Squarestylist

Rachell de Luna is the designer and educator behind Squarestylist, a resource that focuses heavily on Squarespace design and education.

If you want to go beyond simply learning the basic Squarespace editor, Squarestylist is a great resource to bookmark.

Rachell has worked extensively with Squarespace and also teaches designers how to create more customized websites on the platform. That means there’s plenty to explore as you become more comfortable with Squarespace and want to understand what else is possible.

You definitely don't need to learn everything at once, though.

If you're a beginner, focus first on the things you actually need to manage your website. Learn how to edit your text, replace images, update buttons, add or remove sections, and make basic changes to your pages.

You can always learn the more advanced stuff later.

This tutorial is especially helpful for:

  • Squarespace beginners

  • DIY website builders

  • Designers beginning to work with Squarespace

  • Anyone interested in eventually learning more advanced Squarespace customization

You can find more tutorials and resources at Squarestylist.

Which Squarespace website tutorial should you start with?

There really isn’t one “best” Squarespace tutorial for everyone.

Some people learn better with a detailed walkthrough. Others just want someone to show them enough to feel comfortable editing their website.

My recommendation is to choose one tutorial and start there.

You don’t need to watch four tutorials before you can touch your website. Pick the teaching style that makes the most sense to you, open your own Squarespace website in another tab, and follow along.

Pause the video when you need to try something yourself.

And don’t worry about memorizing everything.

After you’ve edited your website a few times, the things that initially felt unfamiliar will start becoming much easier.

Using these tutorials with a Squarespace website template

If you purchased a Squarespace template from me for your nonprofit, these tutorials are a great companion to the instructions that come with your template.

I designed the template to give you the structure and design foundation so you don't have to start with a completely blank website.

Your job is to make it yours.

That means replacing the demo content with your mission, programs, services, resources, donation information, images, and other content your community needs.

You don't have to learn everything about Squarespace

This is probably the biggest thing I want you to take away from this guide.

You don't need to become a Squarespace expert to have a good website.

If you're running a nonprofit or small business, your time is probably better spent learning the parts of Squarespace you'll actually use regularly.

Learn how to update your content. Learn how to add a new page. Learn how to change a photo. Learn how to update a button or link. Learn how to make sure your website looks good on mobile.

You can Google the rest when you need it.

And if you get to the point where something is taking you hours to figure out, that might be the point where bringing in a Squarespace designer makes more sense than continuing to troubleshoot it yourself.

But for everyday website updates, a good Squarespace video tutorial and a little practice can take you a long way.
